The second coin in the Norwegian Attraction series are finally here. The coins are 2" and 3.5 mm thick. It has its own custom icon and custom prefix [NO]. The sale will be held at www.geocoin.no at 4th of August 21:00 Central European Time.
The coins will be $10 and flat rate shipping $3.5.
Background:
Europe’s northernmost point, the Nordkapp rises to a majestic 308 meters above the Barents Sea. North Cape has always been an important point of orientation for sailors in the northern areas and a big attraction for people from all over the world. Nordkapp is a Norwegianized form of the English name North Cape from 1553 (the old Norse name of the cape was Knyskanes). The original name of the municipality was Kjelvik, after a fishing village with the same name. But the village was totally destroyed by the Germans in 1944 - and it never recovered. As a consequence of this the municipality changed the name to Nordkapp in 1950.
On the back there is a Sami, and the text Geocaching under the midnignt sun.
The Sami people are an indigenous people of northern Europe inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses parts of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. Their ancestral lands span across an area the size of Sweden in the Nordic countries. The Sami people are among the largest indigenous groups in Europe. Their languages are the Sami languages, which are classified as Finno-Ugric.
The Sami on the coin wears a Gakti. A Gakti is a piece of traditional clothing. The gákti is worn both in ceremonial contexts and while working, particularly when herding reindeer. The clothes are characterized by a dominant color adorned with bands, plaits, tin art, and often a high collar.
The colours, patterns and the jewellery of the clothing can tell if a person is single or married and where the person is from. There are different gákti for women and men; men's gákti have a shorter "skirt" than women's.
Traditionally the gákti was made from reindeer leather, but nowadays it's more common to use wool, cotton or silk.
I have used a lot of bright colors on this coin. It shall remind you of the beautiful midnight sun we have here in Norway. I hope you all like the coin.
Regards,
Hallgeir(fam.bergum)

Great job, Hallgeir! I love how you give a little background info!
We took our first cache in Norge this past weekend...and almost had our first encounter with a Norsk moose!
Hate to tell ya, though, but my coins also bear the NO prefix, just so you know! I was told it stood for nordic, but I'd rather think it stands for my initials, which are also NO, hehe!
Vackert mynt, bra gjort!

Just wanted to let you know that my virus checker won't let me open your website (geocoin . no). It says a script was attempting to execute and shuts down my browser. The type is 'Exploit-MSDDS'. _________________ "Don't count your weasels before they pop, dink!" -- The Tick |

I have spent the last hours scanning the site with various tools. So far i have not found anything suspicious. AVG internet security claims that the site is clean. Dr.web reports the same. |

I can open the page now with no warning. I still have the quarantine message saved, but I can't access it as I don't have the proper authorization in our office.
Do you have rotating ads anywhere on the site? _________________ "Don't count your weasels before they pop, dink!" -- The Tick |

My Nordkapp coins arrived today!
Whoa, they're huge, colourfull and just superb!!! Love them.
Carried the BN the whole afternoon with me, as I couldn't get enough of it.
May I copy your decription of the Nordkapp from this thread into the Coins page?
Thanks for a wonderfull coin, now I have to see, when I'll be able to visit the place...

I've been a Cthulhu fan for almost 30 years now, and these cute little cartoons are created by Francois Launet over at UVoD.
He actively encourages the use of his characters as avatars, and even has a download section (although I made my own from a better image). I'm thinking of commissioning him to do a Cthulhu holding a GPS and an ammo can and see if he's keen on having it put on a coin.
