Edit: the organizing committee liked my own design, so I'm no longer looking for a designer.

Critiques and comments are still welcome!

From what you're describing, Gridlox might be the one you're looking for. Don't know if he's on these forums so you might want to look him up. Does some great stuff along these lines.

My wife urged me to give it a go myself. Here's what I came up with:

It looks good, but I'd play around with a couple things... Try adding a thicker ring to the outside or moving the text closer in a bit. You're getting a lot of visual stress-points in places like the center of the E where it's not quite touching, but not quite not. Does that make sense? You'll probably have to redraw the As a bit because their x-height elments are so low, but I think it would be worth it. If this sounds like gibberish, just say so and I'll try and show you what I mean. Very Happy

Not quite gibberish, but close! Very Happy
I figure you are talking about how low the crossbar on the A is and I should edit the letter to raise it up to at least match that middle bar on the E and G. Is this what you mean?

I tried your other suggestions and came up with a few variations:

#1: circle thickened to match text thickness. 'A's edited to bring crossbar up.

#2: text completely outside

#3: text brought in considerably -- leaves the 'busy' areas at the tops of the letters instead of the middle.

#4: text completely inside.

You got it - lol - that is what I meant. I like 3 and 4 (4 a bit more) and you could also do something like this, but would need to find a better solution for the year...

Could you get the lettering to fit inside the blue ring? Or would it be too small?

I really like this design!

Your Lobster is cute...but he really needs a couple of bitty legs added. He seems kinda creepy to me without them

I really like the simplicity of this coin and the use of bold colours, but I agree with ATMouse the missing limbs are a bit creepy.
