I'm in the final stages of minting my coins and need a bit of help as to what I should call these colors on the plating. The mint calls what I see as Antqiue Gold, Antqiue Copper and vise versa.

To me this is Antqiue Gold

And I think this as Antqiue Copper

The mint states that it is the reverse of what I think.

What is you opinion? I was just going to order it as what they call it and then state on my sales page the color as I think they should be called. Am I wrong to do this? To me copper is an orange color and Gold is a yellow color.

Thanks,

maldar

I'd get it right between you both first. It'll be much less hassle in the long run Wink

In my experience, the mint is correct. Antiquing a metal is like dusting it with fine black powder. The edges of the coin and the engraved letters become darker, giving the engraving much more definition.

The non-antiqued metals tend to be shiny - unless they are satin-finished.

Keep in mind, I've only gone through this once and maybe the mints are different.

IMHO the best thing to do is to get samples in hand and see what the mint calls them then go from there. It's not unusual for people to get 6 sample coins. Make them trackable then even if you don't choose that plating then you'll have a few one-of-a-kind coins!

These are the samples and the pictures I have taken of them. When I check the sites of other coin makers their colors agree with what I think they should be called. I've check both personalgeocoins.com and coinsandpins.com.

I contacted the mint already, before my original post, and they state that the gold is the orange looking coin and the copper is the yellow coin. I had them verify that with the picture I took using my light box, which is one of the pics below.

I have included pics I have taken with all the coins together for a better referance.

Thanks,

maldar

somebody has their thinking cap on backwards! the gold is yellow, the copper is orange. have the mint change the names to properly reflect the colour. is it a language thing?

you could order by photo - point to the yellow one that you will call "gold" tell them you want X number. same thing with the other metals. don't depend on the spoken language to get your message across.

Ah...I see it now. It's easier to tell with them all together. This is what I see from the above picture - top to bottom, left to right:

Shiny silver
Shiny gold

Antique gold (or bronze - sometimes it's hard to tell the difference)
Antique copper
Copper

Antique silver
Black Nickel
Pewter?? <------this one and the first one look the same to me

You are basically correct. The middle is as follows:

Antique Gold
Antique Red Copper/Brass
Antique Copper

As for the fist and last, one is Silver and one is Nickel. I forgot which was which. The only way I can tell them apart when I have them in hand is that I had the Silver one etched so I could se what the etching would look like.

Interesting...I don't think I've ever heard of "antique red copper" as a metal choice before. I guess you really do learn something every day. Cool

So? Have you decided which metals you like best?

After talking to a couple co-workers I have decided on the following:

Regular Edition Coins -

Antqiue Silver & Antqiue Copper- 100+/Based on Pre-Sales

Limited Edition Coins -

Black Nickel with Gold Glitter Enamel - 40

Only 30 of these coins will be sold, 20 during the pre-sale and 10 after pre-sales are shipped.

The remaining 10 coins will be retained for gifts, cointest, etc.

Extra Limited Edition Coins -

Antqiue Red Brass/Copper - 10

None of these coins will be sold, they will be used for gifts, cointest, etc.
