I've seen a lot of different finishes on coins. I was just wondering if anyone has compiled a list of all the different finishes available. I'm also looking for some clarification on some of the descriptors used.
The most popular finishes seem to be:
Silver
Gold
Copper
Nickel
I've also seen:
Bronze
Rhodium
Chromium
Some of these finishes I've seen in 'Antique' or 'Polished' (clear enough), but I've also seen 'Shiny', 'Foggy', and 'Satin'. Is 'Shiny' the same as 'Polished'? Is 'Foggy' the same as 'Satin'? I've also seen 'Brilliant', but only on eBay, so I don't know if that was just a synonym for 'Amazing'. Then of course, there's 'Black Nickel' -- is this really a plated finish?
So, the complete list (as far as I know) looks like this:
Antique Silver
Polished Silver
Foggy Silver
Satin Silver
Antique Gold
Polished Gold
Foggy Gold
Satin Gold
Antique Copper
Polished Copper
Antique Nickel
Polished Nickel
Satin Nickel
Black Nickel
Antique Bronze
Rhodium
Chromium
Anyone care to add to this? _________________ "Don't count your weasels before they pop, dink!" -- The Tick |
